The Election Countdown Begins

It's twelve months until the presidential election--which is either really short or really long, depending on how much you like the current administration and whether you live in a caucus state running 897 political commercials per hour. If you're the type who wears your political preferences on your sleeve, here are some of the cooler options out there to help your offspring follow suit.

ON THE LEFT
The shirts we found representing the Democratic party tend to be sweatshop-free and sometimes organic. Why aren't we surprised?

Baby Wit is hedging all bets with Edwards, Baby!; Obama, Baby!; Hillary, Baby!; and even dark horse, Kucinich, Baby! ($20, shown)

Tiny Revolutionary adds a nice looking Babies for Hillary tee to their roster of progressive, stylish designs. ($25)

For another take on the Clinton candidacy, hit Sandbox Threads for a great Elect Bill First Lady 08 onesie or tee. ($17)

We love the designs of the political shirts at Babesta, including the Sharpton for President toddler tee which we're not entirely sure is ironic. ($20)

The prize for funnest toddler tee definitely goes to Lowercase Tee's Obama-Bama Bo-Bama shirt. Makes you want to elect him just to get to say that all the time. ($17)

ON THE RIGHT
Boy it's hard finding cool looking Republican gear. Perhaps GOP babies don't grow up to silkscreen tees for a living?

A classic GOP elephant onesie in your choice of colors--although oddly, not red--can be found at Sandbox Threads. ($17)

Onesie Twosie has a Weepublican shirt  ($11.99) for babies up to kids too old to wear them.

Romney is my Homeboy? Well, if it's good enough for Jesus. On a blue, pink or white onesie from Teesed. ($17.99, shown)

Teesed also has a nice, simple varsity lettered Team McCain design in onesies and toddler tees. ($17.99)

The nicest Rudy shirts we found were actually...at Rudy's own shop. We never would have believed it. ($15.95 and doesn't count towards your max contribution)

Not thrilled with any of the GOP candidates just yet? Well, there's always Reagan, memorialized on a field of green at Babesta. ($19.95)

What Celebrity Children Are Wearing (As If You Cared About That Sort Of Thing)

Who doesn't love Cate Blanchett? Everyone loves Cate Blanchett. That's a fact and we've seen it written as such.

Recently, our friends at Celebrity Baby Blog gave us a peek at her gorgeous and decidedly British sons, what with names like Dashiell and Roman. They are both decked out in sweet, unpretentious airplane pajamas which for some reason makes us like her even more.

Two Blue Peas has some wonderful loungewear (code for PJs not made with chemicals) featuring a retro plane motif ($36). But if you want the waking world to catch a glimpse of the garments, we totally love the Sophie Catlou antique planes tee (shown) at Arte Bebe ($37).

For the littlest frequent flyers, you can deck a newborn out in the sweet, subtle hand-embroidered airplane onesie from Shannon by Hand ($16) or keep him toasty with Zutano's airplane motif baby cap (shown) at The Silly Wagon ($7.95).

Talk about your head in the clouds.

In Case You Missed It: Staff Picks for September

With a son whose play yard serves as his crib, I can't wait to get my hands on a Coverplayard. A smart concept and a definite must-have, even if you aren't a germaphobe like me. -Kristen

I was so excited to find an alternative to building sets made in China that I've already added a Roy Toy playset to my holiday wish list. Hmmm, maybe I should get one for my kids too... -Nancy

My Amy Bengston necklace just arrived in the mail and every morning that I put it on, it makes me happy. That's saying something. -Liz

Who says girls get all the cute clothes?  Oh yeah, I did. But that was before I had a little boy.  And before I discovered pint-sized Ben Sherman.  Because it's awesome. -Laura

Runny nose season has arrived...just in time for the cold medicine recall. No mama should be without Boogie Wipe saline wipes, especially at just $3.99 a pack. -Staff

Thanks to Rattle-n-Roll's concert poster holiday card designs, where all proceeds go to support the Red Cross in their San Diego wildfire aid efforts, I'm actually motivated to send cards this year. -Julie
