Getting Organized: No Really, This Time For Real

We've all made the perennial Get Organized, Darn It resolution only to find ourselves ear high and neck deep in piles of paper come April. But not just any datebook or accordion file will do when it comes to a busy mother's mother lode of extremely important documents. And, er, take-out menus.

Dateboooks

*Each of these mama must-haves feature invaluable multi-schedule management space. The swankiest is definitely the momAgenda Desktop planner ($42, pictured) which give you a week-at-a-view and 17 full months of calendar pages between faux leather covers in colors just about as pretty as it gets.

*For a bit less, Whomi's Clarity ($25/$30 pictured, above) comes in two handy sizes and features color-coded lines for each family member. Bonus -- the modern prints are easy on the eyes too.

*If you want extra bang for your buck, pick up a Busy Body Book ($17) to help you wrangle up to five family members without missing a beat.

Pregnancy Organizers

*They're not kidding when they say Baby Daze ($20) is the ultimate organizer, with 8 (count 'em!) sections that include the 4th trimester too. Plus that gift tracker is a lifesaver.

*We love everything about the 40 Weeks planner ($20), but mostly that it lets you keep every single detail from conception to those final anxious days housed in one small spiral bound book. That's not an easy task.

*For the 4,000 vital documents that come home with your baby and continue to accumulate, the BabyBriefcase ($30, pictured) is a must. Keep all your baby's important paperwork, thank-you lists, and anything else you can think of all in one handy case.

Organizational Systems

There's no time like the present to get all your important household info in one place. Life.doc ($30, pictured) from Buttoned Up will practically do it all for you with eight sections from legal and insurance to family basics and home sweet home.

As a simple way to stay organized, we're huge fans of the Eat Sheet and Balance Sheet pads ($10) from the shop at Mommy Track'd.

For all you momtrepreneurs, check out the handy financial organizer ($20) from the one-stop organizational ubershop, See Jane Work. Toss the envelopes of receipts in your drawer and grab one of these.

If paper organizers are way too 2007 for you, then we suggest checking out Cozi, an online family command central. And the best part? It's free.

Now go eat some cake. One resolution at a time, right?

What Celebrity Children Are Wearing (As If You Cared About That Sort Of Thing)

If you have not been to Celebrity Baby Blog lately, they are having a heck of a time with their year end wrap-ups. While there, we got a peak at Amanda Peet and her beautiful daughter Frances.

Frances is decked out in a traditional cable knit sweater dress and cool little striped tights - not a hard look to steal if there's a Gap near you. But if you want a sweater really fit for celebrities, we love the heirloom quality, hand-knit luxe merino romper from New Zealand Monsters in Mittens ($95 US).

As for tights, you can not have enough fun with prints. Popodona has a great selection of the boho-funky styles from Deux Par Deux and Room Seven (great sale prices starting at $15). Arte Bebe carries Trumpette's fun new Chix Tights ($21) and little legs look extra-squeezable in the purple camo print tights at Flying Peas ($20).

Plus there's always the 80 zillion styles of Baby Legs leg warmers. The way we think of them, they're tights only with easier diaper changes. Amen.

In Case You Missed It: Staff Picks for December

My Scribble Couture clutch featuring my daughter's artwork is now one of my most prized possessions. Now all I need is an excuse to use it so I can show it off. -Kristen

I can't wait to pick up a pair (or five) of the cozy felt-and-fleece mittens from Liz Jones Handmade.  The recycled materials appeal to my practical side--and the adorable designs speak to my internal child. (Happy to see she makes adult-sized monster mittens too!) -Nancy

Love the design. Love the sentiment. Nothing says glad I'm not pregnant--I mean, glad you're pregnant--like a swell art directed card from zeichen press. -Laura

Considering the entire neighborhood swoons when my daughter walks by in her Tu for Tee thermal, I highly highly recommend them. Not that I'm looking to my neighbors for validation or anything. -Liz

I love this cute and functional JeJe Vibrating Teether from Baby Vibe.  It works perfectly--plus, it wins the award for the least obnoxious battery-operated kid item, ever. -Tina

Who says geek chic is a misnomer?  Raven Hanna's molecularly-inspired jewelry is not only beautiful, but a conversation piece too.  I'll take one of these sterling silver necklaces over a mass-produced diamond pendant anyday. -Julie

Markmakers is the ultimate gift for the kid who has it all--a gift card used to help people around the world who need it most. Twelve enthusiastic thumbs up. -Staff
