This post is part of a monthly series with our Baby Shower Gift Guide sponsor, babyGap, on our tips for celebrating motherhood firsts. And there are lots!

The official start of summer is just around the corner and that means time for playgrounds, parks, and that very first picnic, one of our very favorite rites of passage for new babies. (We've been through quite a few of those, so we know.)
But before you pack up your entire kitchen in the trunk of the car and cram your basket full of goodies you might not need--or eat-- here are our tips for having a successful picnic with your little one. And of course, some cute looks for those picnic-perfect pics.

I like to think of myself as a closet crafter, someone who secretly loves DIY projects but can never find the time to do them. Well, now that my kids are almost out of school for the summer, I'm determined to roll up my sleeves with them, and I found just the book to help me do it.

Our hearts are so heavy with the news of the devastation caused by yesterday's tornadoes in Oklahoma. Along with keeping those affected in our thoughts, we have pulled together a list of resources that will bring much-needed help, both now and in the near future.

I've always loved peppering my daughters' wardrobes with just a few special handmade pieces from indie artists, from Courtney Chu to Ses Petites Mains and Baby Bean. Not only do they freshen up an otherwise ordinary wardrobe of leggings, tunics and tees, I find they are constructed amazingly well. When my two girls are done with them, Kristen's younger daughters get a care package!

I have a special place in my heart for wooden bowls. My Eastern European grandmother used to make these beautiful and elaborate green salads and serve them to us in small wooden bowls, so I've been looking for bowls that remind me of my sweet Bubbie ever since...to no avail. Until now.
Why I didn't think to look to Etsy is beyond me.

It's pretty well established at this point that we curvy girls are ever grateful for the wrap dress as a wardrobe staple. And now when those curves extend (and extend and extend) to your baby bump, there's a cool maternity dress that will get you through months of pregnancy and back down again.

Twenty years after my own Bat Mitzvah, the world now caters to the preteen universe in ways it never did. Still, finding the right gift for a young adult's special occasion can be tricky in a market that usually consists of accessories that are overly mature, overly expensive, or just...uh, not very nice.
There are some companies out there that do get it right though, and Rucakids is one of them.

The prolific designers and TV faves Bob and Courtney Novogratz are taking their small CB2 home collection to new places. Specifically Brazil. And I want to go.
