Wunway clothing for girls: Hooray for another non-hoochie option!

The new site Wunway first piqued my interest for their awesome, affordable accessories for women--check out the cool wrap bracelet in our Valentine's Day Gift Guide which I'd wear long after the chill of February is over.

But mostly, they're a fabulous resource for stylish yet totally age-appropriate children's clothing. And now that I've gotten a chance to see some of the line in person, I'd say this is one worth checking out.

 

Put together by 3 mothers with 10 children between them, it's amazing that they still have time to craft beautiful, wearable, original designs for kids at all! And yet, thankfully for us, they do. Here, a few favorites:

The Delia Dress (also in a nice dusty rose, above) is so wearable from winter with a cardigan,  right into spring. Though it is short, so I'd pair it with leggings or skinny jeans, more like a tunic. ($55)

For a great basic, my daughter flipped out over the Erica Shirt which is a simple cotton construction with that nice detail at the collar and a pretty ribbon to tie it up in back. Its shape is a bit long and narrow so you can wear it tunic-like or pretty much with anything at all. ($27) The Izzabella Skirt here is fun for our more theatrical daughters. (Know any like that?) $52.

Don't miss checking out the very fun collection of tights and leggings (you know we love patterned tights for girls!) Even the simple solid leggings are nicely constructed, and girls will probably go nuts for the "secret" (as my 5 year old called it) thin strip of cheetah-print trim at the top elastic band of the solid leggings.

Because I know you didn't miss those awesome purple shoes in the collage above, neither did my girls. There was some excitement 'round the laptop when they spotted the vibrant purple Sierra Shoe which they would wear with anything. No exaggeration. I think this is what we're ordering next. ($32)


One of the very cutest pieces is the Edeline Dress, though the photos don't quite capture the spirit. The top is a super soft cotton sweater-like knit--my younger daughter is fabric-sensitive and can't stop stroking it--attached to a floral cotton skirt. It doesn't flare quite so much on its own as the picture indicates, and actually the boxy shape makes it one of my favorite styles, because it transitions perfectly to a tunic giving you more than a years or two of wear. Size up for a drapier feel. ($56)

It's also worth checking out the sale section, for really fun, original outerwear at amazing prices. This cozy wool-blend jacket in grey or camel is killing me with the cuteness, and it's a steal at 50% off right now.

As far as sizing, Wunderware is currently made for kids 1-7 and I'd say they run fairly true to size. My 5 year-old is sizing up to the Large (5/6) so it can grow with her, but my skinny 7.5 year old is doing fine in the XL (6/7). It depends on how big your own 7 year-old is. Toddlers are in great shape either way because even bigger clothes are cute over leggings.

I'm just hoping Wunway will start making the collection in larger sizes--this is the kind of demure, stylish, non-hoochie clothing that moms of tweens are dying for! -Liz
