What the Mayans got right: hot chocolate

Well, we here are beyond happy to know that the world is still around today, Mayan calendar apocalypse warnings notwithstanding. It would be so wrong for it all to end before we get a chance to dig into Season 3 of Downton Abbey.  So we were thinking, if you've got a friend with a sense of humor--or you just need a delicious last-minute holiday gift--we think a homemade hot chocolate in honor of the Mayans who originated the drink in the first place might be just the thing.

Mayan Hot Chocolate recipe | Hello Giggles

This Mayan hot chocolate recipe from Hello Giggles is my kind of culinary DIY gift--no ovens, no blenders, no microwaves, and really, not a whole lot of mess. Just mix all the dry ingredients, which get a kick from the cinnamon, nutmeg, and the teeniest bit of cayenne peppers or chili flakes. Package it in a pretty tin or jar, and tie it up with a printable gift tag on which you print the very simple prep instructions.

After all, is there any better way to celebrate the first day of the rest of your life than with chocolate? Cheers. -Liz
