Neighborhood Toy Store Day 2012: shop local today and score discounts and karma points

Whether or not you're ready to deck a hall, or any other symbol of holiday festivity that will be here before we know it, we're pretty sure that some of you are already starting to make your holiday lists. Well, today just so happens to be a brilliant to day to start checking the kids in your life off your list, help your community, and maybe score a few discounts while doing it.

As a site that's always been committed to supporting the little guy (and gal) out there, when we first got wind of the annual Neighborhood Toy Store Day when it launched, we sent up a rousing cheer. Well it's come again today, and we hope you'll consider it as an excuse to make today a fun local shopping day.

Lots of shops are offering discounts today only plus tons of great in-store activities and events. Plus, boutiques are often the only place you can so many of our favorite brands like eeboo, Peaceable Kingdom games, Maileg, Bla Bla Toys, Haba, Plan Toys, Beatrix NY, Oeuf Toys, Deglingos, and even goodies from local artists and super small start-ups like Tenzi, that you can't find anywhere else.

Besides it's not just fun to shop local, it's beneficial: ASTRA research has found that 68% of your purchases at a local toy stores returns to the community, as opposed to 43% at national chains.
