When my first daughter was born, I had absolutely no idea that babies scratched themselves (oops!), so I found myself putting socks on her hands to protect her face. I'm grabbing a pair of guavamitts for all my pregnant friends because they're the handiest little invention I've seen in a long time. The cool, modern prints (on both sides!) combined with the bamboo and organic cotton fabric make them super soft and comfy for newborns, plus the velcro around the wrists ensures that she won't bat them off.

I'm sorry but these things are a horrible idea. Babies are learning about the world with their touch, this is depriving them of a chance to learn and explore. I refused to use mittens on both my kids and they both survived all their little scratches just fine. I just made sure to keep their nails trimmed so they didn't suffer too much damage.
I don't think these are a horrible idea. Both my children had eczema and would scratch themselves bloody. Raking their nails over their arms, legs, and face. Cutting their nails helped to some extent if I did it almost every day but they could still manage to raise welts with their little stubby fingers. So they wore mittens. I don't think they explored or learned any less. They survived this just fine.
