Trick or Treat for Unicef

Now that my oldest is four, I’ve noticed she seems to really understand the concept of charity. What’s better is that she’s excited about the idea of sharing with people who have less than we do, so I’m thrilled to be able to get her to Trick or Treat for UNICEF for the first time.

I have such great memories as a kid of hearing all those pennies and that rare quarter (thanks Mrs. Coulter!) jingling around in the bright orange box – which, by the way, is now cuter than ever.  But of course the best part is knowing that the donations are going directly to kids around the world who need as little as clean drinking water and a roof over their heads. Kids helping kids – ack, I’m getting all teary just thinking about it.

Get your box from Hallmark stores, Pier One, or Baskin-Robbins in your neighborhood, or download the can wrapper right from the website, print it out, and make your own. And if you want to learn more about program, check out the UNICEF videos here.

If you’re not turning in your pennies at school and you’d rather make your contribution online, P&G, in a partnership with HGTV, will match all donations up to $100k when you make the donation through this website. Or you can text the word TOT to UNICEF from your cell for a $5 donation on the spot. So 21st century. Awesome. –Liz
