Huge news: Bugaboo Donkey is here! A.K.A. Bugaboo finally makes a double stroller.
I've only been waiting for this stroller for six years. Well, I guess only three, really, since that's when my second child came into the picture. And that's when I started wondering why Bugaboo didn't have a double stroller.
Not an issue anymore. Today, in a top-secret, password-encrypted website for the press, Bugaboo revealed their latest design, the Bugaboo Donkey. And yes, my stroller-loving friends, it's a double. But it's even better than that.
This innovative stroller -- which we're going to have to wait for
until Spring 2011 -- actually goes from a single stroller to a
side-by-side double and back again. In three clicks.
The width of the single, or "mono" as they're calling it in
Bugaboo-speak, is exactly the same as the width of the Cameleon. Yet, it
has an expandable side shopping basket for extra storage (which, I
assume, means the actual seat is a little narrower than a standard
stroller). Lots more storage . . . Donkey . . . Ah, I get the name now. Mostly.
The width of the double, which is called, of course, the "duo" is 29 inches. They say that makes it the narrowest luxury side-by-side double available. I say, as long as it fits through a standard-sized doorway --which, of course, it does-- I'm happy.
And the best part? Well, for me, at least. Bugaboo has conveniently timed this stroller's launch with the arrival of my third baby. Perfect. Especially because Bugaboo just informed me that I'll be able to attach their ride-on board for my lazy big kid, with the purchase of a special adapter.

I am so excited about this! I love my Bugaboo! I actually called them this morning to ask if they were coming out with a double stroller. The rep said "yes" but i was still iffy. People have been blogging about this for 3 years so I almost didn't believe it. Not that they would lie, but i had my doubts. A few questions though...Can we put 2 bassinets and two infant car seats (with adapters of course) on the frame at the same time for twins? Are the seats forward and back facing like all of the other Bugaboo strollers?
How much is this stroller gonna cost?
I'm just looking into these questions and I'll get back to you! Don't think they've released a price, yet, though.

You can use the Donkey with 2 bassinets and 2 infant car seats. The adapters jut out to the sides, which makes the stroller wider than the 29" of the frame, which could be a problem for fitting through doorways.

Okay, here are the answers straight from Bugaboo.
Regarding two bassinets or two car seats:
Yes you can put two bassinets or car seats on the frame at the same time for twins. Parents can either use one or two car seats with the Bugaboo Donkey. Both Maxi Cosi and Graco car seats will be compatible. With the Bugaboo Donkey you can make 21 different configurations; you can use the stroller in mono and in duo configuration; you can use the stroller with carrycot(s), seat(s), car seat(s) and a side luggage basket – the seat can either be placed facing parents or facing world and can be reclined in 2 or 3 sit positions.
Regarding the direction of the seats:
Yes they are (both forward- and rear-facing), although we always recommend using the bassinet as parent-facing only.
Regarding cost:
At this moment we cannot communicate prices yet. This will happen much closer to the consumer launch in the Spring of 2011.

I wonder how this compares to the Baby Jogger City Select. That is a stroller that really goes from a single to a double and back. Although not side-by-side, it is a great stroller with a higher per seat weight limit (45lbs!). THe Bugaboos are very handsome, but I still think you are paying a status surcharge.
