Because I Love Her book - Mother's Day GiftThe fact is, we’re all busy and busy doesn’t always bode well for the good gift intentions that we always have. But if you’re shopping for last minute Mother’s Day gifts for that favorite mother, grandmother, or best friend mother in your life, our go-to gift is always a great book.

Here are a few faves from other blogging and writing moms–so basically you’ll make two moms happy with every purchase. Sometimes more.

Because I Love Her: 34 Writers Reflect on the Mother-Daughter Bond by Nicki Richesin – This new series of essays about mothers and their girls includes some of our favorite writers, like Joyce Maynard and Karen Joy Fowler. Nice gift for your own mother, if she’s the type who can accept that your own relationship is imperfect.

(And psst…if you’re in SF catch a reading tonight at Books Inc)

Writing Motherhood
by Lisa Garriguez – This is an awesome girlfriend gift if you don’t
actually keep it for yourself. The author (and longtime writing
instructor) helps any mother see that she has a story worth telling,
whether she has an audience of a million, or simply her own offspring.

The White Trash Mom Handbook
by Michelle Lamar – The subtitle is Embrace Your Inner Trailer Park,
Forget Perfection, Resist Assimilation into the PTA, Stay Sane, and
Keep Your Sense of Humor
. What else is there to be said? Oh right –
it’s hilarious.

The Rookie Moms Handbook: 250 Activities to Do With (and Without!) Your Baby
by Whitney Moss and Heather Flett – This is not actually one of those
practical mom books that doesn’t make much of a gift. While certainly
useful, it’s so fun and creative and humorous, it will not go
unappreciated.
Rockabye
Rockabye: From Wild to Child
by Rebecca Woolf  – you don’t have to be a tattooed hipster
20-something mom to relate to this stirring, reflective, and often
hysterical autobiography. But might wish that you
were.

Peeing in Peace: Tales and Tips for Type A Moms – Beth Feldman and Yvette Corporon’s classic guide is filled with wisdom and wonderful anecdotes to help you laugh through the sleep deprivation.

Sleep is for the Weak: The Best of the Mommybloggers ed. Rita Arens – You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll say hey wait – half of the CMP contributors are in here. Cool.
