As long time fans of funky kindie artist and now Grammy winner Secret Agent 23 Skidoo, we knew that their latest 5-song EP Mozartistic would be cool even before we listened to it. And… it is.

As you might have guessed, the album blends the classical Mozart with hip hop but there’s more to it than just mixing two genres.

A string quartet mimics the hip hop sound of record scratching and heavy drums and a killer bass line blend beautifully with the classical sounds of the Asheville Symphony Orchestra. Plus, the band layers smart hip hop lyrics about the child prodigy himself over these beautiful melodies.

So, so cool!

My personal favorite track is Supersonic Symphonic, featuring Asheville artist Indigo De Souza. It reminds me a lot of The Roots’ You Got Me, which brought in Erykah Badu’s soulful lyrics for the chorus.

For my girls and me, Mozartistic threads a little musical history with a lot of captivating hip hop style and beats in a really smart, fun way that definitely borrows a page from the genius of Hamilton the Musical. And if you know me, well you really can’t get much better than that.
