Old Alt Indie Country Artists Don't Die, They Just Make Children's Albums
The other day, my son and I were wandering aimlessly in a children's clothing shop when I started humming along to the piped in music. "Wait a minute," I said. "That's Rosie Flores! Awesome!"
An iTunes search for the song led me to The Bottle Let Me Down: Songs for Bumpy Wagon Rides, a 26-track homage to retro-inspired, alt-indie-country. Think rockabily Austin in the summertime with a cold beverage. It's like that.
The collection from Bloodshot Records features classics sung before Reagan was president--Rubber Ducky, On Top of Spaghetti, The Three Billy Goats Gruff. They're interspersed with hilarious oddball tunes like I Am My Own Grandpa, and each song is recreated with crazy instrumentation and skilled coolness that you never knew could be achieved with Three Little Fishes. Seriously. There's not a sucky song in the bunch.
If you're one of those hipsters looking for the latest and greatest, then don't look here because this bad boy is five years old. But if you're just someone looking for the greatest, then hit Amazon or iTunes, listen to some samples, then climb aboard the bumpy wagon. There's definitely room for more. -Laura
